• Introduction of IPCryptSIMTM best-of- class security upgrade

IPCS Group has just released their latest version of their IPCryptSIMTM  SIM-based encryption engine, utilizing the asymmetric RSA 128bit key pair,  based on RSA's extended 2,048bit key length.

IPCS Group's Technical Director, Dr. Igor Lyszkiewicz explains:
"Our IPCryptSIMTM uses one key for encryption and another for decryption. To ensure absolute security, we have chosen the asymmetric RSA algorithm that uses a key pair, a 'private key', that is known to the mobile SMS sender, only, and a 'public key' that has been installed in the recipient's mobile device. To encrypt the plaintext of an SMS and to send it as a cipher text to the receiver ensures, that only the recipient can decrypt and read the SMS. To ensure that the SMS message can not be read by anybody who, erroneously, received the encrypted SMS, the SMS was encrypted with the recipient's 'public key'. This way, only the correct recipient's 'private key' can decrypt the SMS."

"Although this sounds rather complicated for the normal user, it, in fact is rather simple. We attach the recipient's 'public key' to his/her mobile phone number. Now, if a mobile user wants to send an encrypted SMS, he/she just writes the SMS in clear text in our IPCryptSIMTM application on the mobile phone and selects the recipient's mobile phone number from the mobile device' phone book. Our IPCryptSIMTM application uses the attached 'public key' from the recipient's mobile phone number and encrypts the SMS."

"Initially, when we install the RSA algorithm on the SIM card the key pair is generated based on a a special key that consists of 1,024 digits. It selects randomly 128 digits in whatever sequence unknown to the user and us, to generate the key pair. Anyone who would want to attempt to break this key would require to run a Super Computer for many years to get to the key. With technological advancements we are now able the insert a much longer special key into the SIM, that consists of 2,048 digits. By doubling this key length the randomly generated key pair has become even more secure and breaking it would add many decades of work to hackers."

"Technological development is always on the move. Security is today's prime focus to ensure privacy and integrity. However, let's face it, the same technological advancements open up avenues for hackers or persons with malicious intent to develop. It is, therefore, necessary for us to be a number of technological steps ahead of them to guarantee that our security applications can not be compromised and any form."
